2.3 - Discussion Deregulation of the Airline Industry

Discussion D

Q Consider the history of the airline industry regulation and deregulation: In 1978, President Carter signed legislation changing the airline industry from being strictly controlled through the Civil Aeronautics Board to being highly competitive. Since 1978, the airlines have merged, folded, expanded, decentralized, and changed in many other ways. Watch the video, Airline Deregulation: The Document That Transformed The Industry (YouTube 9:53): After watching the video, discuss the following: Should the airlines continue to be deregulated, should the Federal Government go back to total regulation, or should a middle ground (some form of regulation) be adopted for the U.S. airline industry? Explain in detail your rational and why. Ensure you support your opinion with research. Review the evaluation rubric for detailed grading criteria. Post and Engage Post your response and rationale in this discussion forum. Try to respond to peers with a different point of view. If you do not find a post with a different point of view, add a new thread and post a question to advance the discussion. Engage and express critical thinking through your responses to promote an interactive learning experience. Reply to at least three of your peers throughout the week. When responding, use terminology from course resources and cite related references, where applicable. Each response should be in your own words, grammatically sound, and free of spelling errors. Finally, remember to post early enough in the week to allow others the opportunity to respond to your posting.

This is because when there had been regulation of the airlines industry; there had never been the observance of the present type of positivity.
